Hameldown Hammer.

Ten TAAC members completed Hameldown Hammer on a bright sunny 0.5 degree morning starting and finishing at Widecombe in the Moor.  This challenging trail race had a 13.1 mile Half Marathon or Seven Mile distance to choose from both designed to be a serious test of endurance.    The Hameldown Moor has a total ascent of over 600m. With the route 98% trail over a series grassy, rocky, sometimes muddy tracks and through forestry glades.   The Hammer routes were both very hilly both starting with a 2.5 mile climb to the top of the first Tor, which rises high and steep affording spectacular views of the Moor and Tor’s, some of the best trail running Dartmoor has to offer. All of the athletes enjoyed their experience commenting “A bitter wind on the ridge way, frozen ground underfoot but nice and warm in the valleys with streams to run through!”
