Dartmoor Vale Races
Pete Monaghan was first finisher in the Dartmoor Vale 10k on Sunday leading home ten Torbay AC members in this event, with five other club members running in the Half Marathon.It was a bright chilly Autumn morning with a buffering biting wind, where long sleeves and leggings were chosen by some before the events started from the Sibelco East Golds Works at Newton Abbot.
Team Torbay working well together produced some excellent times in these freezing conditions on both the 10k and Half Marathon routes.
In the 10k race Team Torbay had a winner in Peter Monaghan M50 finishing in (34:40) with many other great age category placings and results finishing 12th was Martyn Breslan 1st MV40 (38:57), 20 Brian Lewis 2nd MV45 (44:40), 44 Christopher Norman (50:08), 46 Sara Crozier 1st FV50 (50:13), 56 Ian Sharrock 3rd MV60 (53:05), 58 Anita Merritt (53:24), 66 Andy Philippou 3rd MV55 (54:38), 86 Mark Luscombe (56:53), 121 Phil Perkins (1:02:54)
In the Half Marathon runners ran 6 miles out to Chudleigh, then after encountering a number of hills including ‘That Hill!’ the welcome downhill 7 mile return through scenic country lanes back to the finish.
As with the 10k event Torbay AC runners put in some excellent results including Fiona Holden who came 1st in her age category. Nick Robinson was the first home for the Team Torbay 37th in (1:41:39) closely followed by 39th Ian Hayward (1:41.47), 64 Cassandra Harrison (1:48.24), 80 Fiona Holden 1st Place V50,(1:53.36) 149 Gemma Radcliffe (2:25.18) and course PB.
