Monday 27th May

Kav Solder and Dan Bickford-Beers of Torbay A.C. travelled to West Africa to run the Sierra Leone Marathon on Sunday 26th May in the scenic north of the country. The route winds through …….

…….tropical forest and local villages where runners are welcomed by locals and high-fived by children. The elevation gain through the race is 330m, so it’s not for the faint hearted considering the heat and humidity. Kav and Dan are raising money for Street Child which is a UK based Charity creating educational opportunities for vulnerable African children. Prior to the marathon they met young people and played football with a local amputee team. Anyone wishing to donate can visit their just giving page: www.justgiving.com/dan-kav .

On Saturday evening Fleur Ricklin and Anthony Raine travelled to West Devon to represent Torbay A.C at the Bere Pen 10k which is a scenic run around the Bere Peninsular passing along the beautiful River Tamar. The first half of the run is a fast downhill making it easy for the runners to cover ground in good time. However, once runners reach the Estuary there is long steep return to the village. Anthony Raine came in 12th position out of 165 runners in a time of 00:44:04 and Fleur Ricklin came in 83rd in 00:58:43.
