Cyprus Marathon

Two Torbay AC couples Andy and Linda Philippou with Paul and Linda Frissen ran in the Logicom Cyprus Marathon which welcomed 3000 runners to the sunny island from more than 50 countries.
With the temperature around 22 degrees, the Marathon started at Petra Tou Romiou Aphrodite’s Birthplace, following an undulating coastal route beside the Mediterranean sea. The picturesque finish line was up hill to the Pafos Medieval Fort right next to the beautiful Pafos Harbour.

Karen Frissen and Linda Philippou crossed the line together in 176th at (4:18:23) minutes claiming 3rd in their age category’s and a marathon PB for them both.

Unfortunately, Paul Frissen was not well but still admirably completed the course in (5:31:39) at 325th with Andy Philippou although struggling with cramp at 15 miles finished 289th in (5 :04:26)

Final round of Westward League Cross Country at Redruth

Luckily most of the snow cleared in time for 21 Torbay Athletic Club junior and adult members to travel and compete at Sunday’s final Westward League Cross Country Meeting in Redruth. It was junior Iona Farquharson who produced the stand out performance of the day by finishing 2nd in the U13 Girls race which put her 6th in the overall league. James Alcock secured a 2nd place trophy in the overall league by finishing 4th in his U17 Mens race. The club were unlucky not to win more trophies with the U17 Mens team finishing 4th, the U13 Boys team finishing 5th, Lisa Hayley, Denis Doy and Anthony Raine finishing 5th and Nick Robinson finishing 6th in his age category.
