The Exeter Half Marathon

Sidmouth 4 Trigs Challenge
Torbay’s Darren Maynard ran the Sidmouth 4 Trigs Challenge, where runners had to visit each trig point at Western Cliff, Buckton Hill, Beacon Hill and High Peak, plus 5 checkpoints in between. This grueling race has a massive total 3,200 feet of climbing all off road and 17 miles of self navigation. Saying afterwards “it was super hard this year, extremely muddy and slippery. I ran it in (3:59:18) under my goal of 4 hours but half an hour away from my best!”

The Trail Events
The Trail Events 14.5mile long trail was the challenge for Brian Lewis, the event on Dartmoor, starting near Hound Tor before crossing three Tors. Brian said after finishing in (3:45:01) “the weather was hideous this year, with strong winds, raining heavily all around the muddy, hilly course!” The event finished at Holwell Down in the heart of Dartmoor, where you received your bespoke medal, tech t-shirt, plus some well earned refreshments.

Hestercombe Humdinger
Nick Cull ran the Hestercombe Humdinger annual half marathon held at Taunton, with the clouds looming at the start bringing a snow shower moments before the start. But with the run leading straight up onto the surrounding Quantock Hills the weather there was totally different, the tough Humdinger Hill half way around the course with an overall elevation gain of 1380 feet certainly pushed the heart rate up, but later the quiet country lanes were bathed in sunlight making it a glorious event. Nick Cull finished in (1:43:45) 60th overall of a field of 187 runners.

Marathon training was also on Nick Robinson mind when he ran the Exeter Parkrun early on Saturday morning (23:39) followed later by the Exeter half marathon where he finished 97th in (1.43.04) not satisfied with this on Sunday he ran in the Westward league Cross Country at Plymouth!
